Caregiver Curriculum: Safety
 
About this Course:
This training counts towards the Safety category of the SOS Children's Villages Illinois training plan, and is recommended for all Professional Foster Parents, Relief Parents, and Child Welfare Specialists.  Key topics to be covered include the following:
  • Proper storage of prescription and OTC medications
  • Maintaining medication (packaging and relevant information, i.e. keep it in the original package, label with name of user, etc.)
  • Appropriate disposal of expired or unused medications, syringes, medical waste, etc.
  • Administration of OTC Medications
  • Administration of Emergency Medications
  • Documenting medication administration in accordance with DCFS standards
 
Who should attend:
  • All Professional Foster Parents
  • All Relief Parents
  • All Child Welfare Specialists
  • All Operations staff
  • Anyone who wants to learn/refresh strategies for safely managing, storing, and administering medication
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Describe proper storage and administration of prescription and OTC medications
  • Understand DCFS regulations related to medication management and administration.
 
Important Reminders:
  • Training will start promptly at 9am, and no participants will be admitted after 9:15am. 
  • Bring a pen and notebook to take notes.
